SO, WHO AM I?

This is a brief history about a man named Sean Nelissen. Like most others, Sean is your typical student, but not too typical of course. No, that would make for a very boring story now wouldn’t it. But what makes Sean stand-out from the other ape-descendent life forms, which share the same little blue green planet? It’s not how you can mostly find him manipulating beziers on his laptop, while drinking a cup coffee. Or that he is a Graphic Design student at Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. Not even his shoes size is that mentionable.

No, what makes him so remarkable from the other hard working and coffee drinking students, is his attitude and experiences. But to be able to fully understand this, we must start at the beginning. In the beginning there was the big bang, which helped to form…

Ok maybe let’s speed things up a bit, I ‘m sure you’re a very busy person for me to be so thorough. Sean was born in a far away land known as South-Africa and moved to The Netherlands when he was eight. In the strange and new land, where they thought living under sea level would be a marvellous idea – Sean attended the Graphic Lyceum. After which, he felt that his need for knowledge had not yet been fulfilled, and so he went to The Willem de Kooning Academy. An art school where he’s currently studying to become a Graphic Designer and is annoying the heck out of his fellow classmates, doing way more work than assignments generally call for.

Since the beginning of this year, he was offered a position as a freelancer for a studio based in Amsterdam, Called No9. There he works on creating logo’s and identities with a focus on start-ups, while vanquishing ugly designs that cover the landscape.

Alongside his freelance work, he has started a Graphic Design agency with his Swiss partner in crime: Shirin Pfisterer, helping small start-ups with their identity and strategy.

So what is it that makes Sean different? He’s passionate and hard working, easy to talk to and has an open attitude. He’s very curious about every one and everything around him, making his designs enriched with research.  And he believes a good Graphic Designer guides the client on journey to find what they need and desire and can translate this into a design that clearly conveys their message and values. He loves what he does for a living and tries as hard as he can to help others find a way to do what they love.
